The remaining metro lines are in the funding and investment sourcing phase, awaiting commencement of construction. The construction for the first (Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien) and second (Ben Thanh-Tham Luong) lines is currently ongoing. The estimated investment for the project is around $25 billion. As of now, HCMC has plans for eight metro lines and three electric vehicle lines, spanning a total distance of 220 km. This initiative is a significant part of the city’s urban planning strategy that extends up to 2040, with a vision that further reaches out to 2060. The new metro lines will connect the Tan Son Nhat airport and the Can Gio urban area to the national railway system.
